    Default October 2018

I am all excited about our upcoming trip to CSS October 17. A week on the beach to celebrate our 5th year anniversary. We honeymooned at Swept Away. I want to see the falls so we decided on CSS. We enjoyed Swept Away so much that Iím afraid CSS wonít match our last trip. Who has been to both that can tell me some pros and cons?

Hi Sharon: We donít go until June but just thought you may want to look at the February 8th, 2018 post titled NEW 2017 CSS walkthrough video. (under same ďmeet upĒ section). Iíve watched it at least 15 times since we booked in December and am already in love with the beauty of CSS and the various areas to explore on the resort. Enjoy your trip!

Our first trip to a Couples resort was CSA also... then we tried CTI, and CSS. We really wanted to try them all, but after we spent a week at CSS we decided that was our favorite one, and there was no point moving on ( 4 trips in a row). Now every year we come back to CSS sometime around late September or early October. This year we will be there 10-5 until 10-14.
CSA has the nicer of the beaches, but we actually did not like all the vendors there, and CSS is much quieter on the main beach, and also has SSB
I really enjoyed the food and drinks at each of them... And this is just me, so others dont get all angry, but i feel that the staff and entertainment crew at CSS were happier to be there and a lot more fun.
I do miss the Catamaran trips to Ricks and the cave that is offered at CSA

Like any resort there are pros and cons.... that is why all their resorts have different feels, and everyone has their favorite.... but I honestly dont think you can go wrong with any of their resorts

We arrive on the October 17th as well so we'll see you there! We'll be staying through the 29th. Our 8th trip to Couples

You will love CSS just as much as CSA - the beach will not be the same, but it's very private and much better for water sports.

There's a lot to explore and do at CSS/Ocho Rios - besides Dunn's river there's the Blue Hole and Rafting down the White River (which starts/ends at SSB - just ask for Keith)

You will find CSS to be much more intimate, private and very relaxing and you may find yourselves alone on many occasions (Find the "hidden" beach/hot tub near the mineral pool).

If you are going to get a massage - make sure to get it in the round hut that's right by the ocean - it costs a bit more, but well worth it.

If you are thinking of trying SSB - make sure to go early on your trip - if you're unsure - do what we did - trade places to Tower Island, go on the first boat over and give it a try - there will be very few people on the island so if it's not for you, you can leave without anyone knowing...

The one bit of advice I'd give - be ready to explore - there's lot's of ways to get around the resort, so if the stairs are bothering you - find the elevator by the spa... Not liking the main beach because you can't float/swim like at CSA? Move over to the mineral pool beach and swim there (you'll find a sandy bottom and deeper water)

Go to SSB - even if it's not until sunset when it becomes clothing optional as there's something amazing about that whole area - very beautiful.

Everything else - food, drinks, staff, entertainment, cleanliness/comfort of rooms should be on par with CSA - at times better

Our first time to a Couples resort was to CN in May. We had such a fabulous time that we've booked a trip to CSS Oct 22-29. Absolutely expect another, but different, great experience. Counting days.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't gotten more responses for people going in October - wondering if we'll see some of the usual crowd this time(??)

    Let's start the list:

    Michael & Kristin (Oct. 17-29th)
    Peter & Marti (Oct. 22-29th)
    Sharon & ? (Oct. 17-24th)

Maybe it will just be us and we'll have the resort to ourselves!

This actually happened briefly for us one October - we arrived at SSB just at the start of huge down pour - having just arrived we were determined to stick it out - an hour passed, then another 30 minutes...

Just as we were about to give up and head back to the room the sun came out!! No-one was left except the bartender. We had SSB to ourselves for several hours before 1 other couple came out.

Adding a couple to the list.

    Barb & Andy (Oct. 3-13th)
    Kent & Wendy (Oct. 10-17th)
    Michael & Kristin (Oct. 17-29th)
    Sharon & ? (Oct. 17-24th)
    Chris & Lesley (Oct. 17-31st)
    Mark & Cindy (Oct. 18-27th)
    CJ & Sherry (Oct 19th-25th)
    Peter & Marti (Oct. 22-29th)
Dan and Tracey (Oct 26th- Nov 5th)

For Mark & Cindy - be ready to relax and let the "sand gravity" take over - don't plan too much and let them know if anything isn't to your satisfaction and you're sure to have a great time. The resort is big and open 24/7 - so be ready to explore and try new things.

If you are considering going to the AN beach (SSB) - make sure you go early in your trip so you can plan accordingly.

If not, make sure you do come over to SSB at least once to watch the sunset.

Consider going on Keith's Bamboo Raft tour of the White River (You can just ask for him when you get there - he'll be at SSB)

The Dunn's River falls tour is worth doing at least once (It's free/included with your stay)

Massages in the hut by the ocean are especially nice and the mineral pool is a beautiful, peaceful place in the early morning and evenings.

A couple of more tips since it's your first time to Jamaica and an all-inclusive...

In Jamaica - things move much slower - they call it "Jamaica time" as a joke - but this isn't a bad thing - after a couple of days you will adjust and you'll understand everyone is just a lot more relaxed than you were when you arrived. You will experience this from the airport to the resort.

Be prepared to try new things (from the food to the water sports) - and don't be afraid to try something, and if you don't like it - ask for something else.

This also applies to your room - especially at CSS - where every room is unique and has pros/cons - if unhappy with it, ask to be moved - they will move your stuff for you (it might take a day or two for something else to open). For example - the G Block rooms are very quiet and have huge balconies with views for miles! But some people call the furniture in these rooms "Dated" and would rather have a newer room that's closer to everything (in A/B block) but with a more limited view... To each their own but don't be afraid to move if the 1st room isn't right - they'll even let you tour the open rooms to find the best fit.

Most importantly - communicate if something's wrong - they will go over the top to fix it for you. Can't find a chair? Ask water sports - they'll get one and set it up for you in a shady spot. Drink a bit on the weak side? Just ask for another shot to go on top...

    Enjoy!

Thanks for the extra tips! We are daily looking at the message board and YouTube videos to see and learn as much as we can. It can be overwhelming but we know it will all be good. We have never been to an AN beach but are considering it and talking about doing it the first full day we are there. (Will be arriving we think around 5 ish on Thursday the 18th. As an FYI we are from NW Arkansas, yes thatís Hog country as well as Walmart country lol.

Long story short - we added another day!

    Oct. 17th-30th

Delta dropped their prices - but didn't want to give us a credit - so, we changed for free instead...

In June - flying back on the 30th was $250/pp more! Wasn't paying $500 in airfare just for one day. Now the 30th is the cheapest flight back.

Let's update who all is coming.

    Barb & Andy (Oct. 3-13th)
    Kent & Wendy (Oct. 10-17th)
    Michael & Kristin (Oct. 17-29th)
    Sharon & Joe (Oct. 17-24th)
    Chris & Lesley (Oct. 17-31st)
    Mark & Cindy (Oct. 18-27th)
    CJ & Sherry (Oct 19th-25th)
    Peter & Marti (Oct. 22-29th)
Dan and Tracey (Oct 26th- Nov 5th)

For all of you that are coming in on the 17th - We are flying Delta out of Atlanta. Leaving Atlanta at 9:10 am and arriving in Jamaica at 11 am. Who all will be on the plane with us? 38 days (38 days 9 hours 46 minutes and 32 seconds) before our plane leaves. I already have our suitcase packed. My husband is laughing at me. I can't wait!!! I dream about drinking Ting and having the great tasting ketchup. I am bringing stainless cups with lids to keep our drinks cold while we are on the beach. Trying to come up with what design I want to put on the cups. Anyone have some suggestions for me?
