    Default Club Mobay

We bought Club Mobay for arrival and departing. We were wondering what to expect.... When you arrive at Montego Bay airport, do they already have your bags or do you get them first and then find the driver. Is the club Mobay clearly marked at the airport? We have another couple arriving an hour before us and they are using club Mobay also, can they wait for us? How often does the bus come to pick up?

    Any help would be appreciated

There will be someone waiting for you holding a sign with your name on it at the exit ramp of the plane. They will guide you through customs and to collect your luggage. They will then take you to there lounge and you may stay there till your friends arrive. The bus from the airport to the resort leaves every 15 to 20 minutes but make sure to sign in a the couples lounge and also share your information with them as they will be taking your luggage or you could wait till your friends arrive and then sign in at the couples lounge. Most people sign in at couples lounge then return to the Mobay lounge as there is a better drink selection. Both lounges are next to each other so you can keep an eye on your bus departure. We bring our own cooler cups and get a drink for the road. Enjoy.

First piece of advice.... your airline should give you immigration cards to fill out on the plane before landing. Make sure you get 2 immigration cards- even if stewardess tells you only one card is needed per family or per couple. You each need an immigration card AND fill EVERYTHING on the cards completely-(front and back) sign & date everywhere necessary too. After deplaning & walking down a couple zig-zag ramps, a MoBay rep will be holding a sign with your names on it-(another tip...if you want a picture with mobay rep Holding a sign with your names on it-have your camera or phone ready when deplaning-(would be a nice memory/picture to have starting your wonderful vacay in Jamaica/Couples right as you land).
Have your passports and immigration cards ready also when deplaning since the Mobay Rep checks them to make sure they are correctly filled out & then they will wisk you to an expedited immigration line and will be waiting for you after to go get your luggage.(another tip which might help because both times we used Mobay-the reps asked us what our luggage looked like since they were going to baggage carousel to get for us while we went through immigration- so since about 90% of all the luggage out there, all we could say is it's "Black" haha- so possibly you can take a picture of your checked luggage with your phone and show Mobay rep when they meet you and they might possibly have the bags ready for you waiting as you get past immigration desk) Keyword being "MIGHT" since a lot of luggage look alike.
After getting luggage, you will then go through one more fast check to collect your immigration cards and Mobay rep will direct you to the Couples lounge to check in to let them know you arrived before they take you to the Mobay lounge. If your intention is to go to the resort with your friends arriving ahead of you, you need to advise your friends to tell Couples when they check in that they do not want to leave until you arrive because Couples will run transfers every 15-30 mins on average-(in our experience) and will fill transfers up as needed in that cycle. So again let you friends know to tell the person at Couples lounge they want to wait for you OTHERWISE they will be wisked away on a earlier transfer ahead of you. Then I am sure your friends can use both the Mobay amenities & Couples amenities until you arrive-(Couples lounge have Redstripe & Redstripe Lite, soda & maybe water only) Mobay will have snacks, beer and rum punch so if your Friends have an hour in ahead of you- they will most likely have bigger smiles on their faces when you get there if they are taking full advantage of the beer and/or rum punch at MoBay or Couples lounge. Another tip... since we have been to Couples, we have received large sealable water bottles from past stays which we always brought back with us and have the Couples lounge fill for us for our ride to the resort-I suspect the Mo-Bay lounge will do the same. FYI-there are 2 arrival Mo-bay lounges-there is one directly beside Couples Lounge and another arrival Mo-Bay arrival lounge near the exit door.

As far as cash tips, Mobay rep most likely will expect tip; not required to tip anyone in the Couples lounge or the Couples person putting tags of your resort on your bags BUT the baggage porters taking your luggage to the bus will expect tips-(usually I give $1 to $2 per bag) and we tip Driver of bus also when we arrive.

After you get off the plane and head down the ramp, a Club MoBay representative will be waiting with your name on a sign. They will escort you through Customs (or Immigration...I can never keep them straight)...and if there is a long line, Club MoBay has a fast-track line that gets you through near immediately. Generally you get through that part so quickly that you will be waiting at the carousel for your bags. Then they escort you through Immigration (or Customs...whichever the prior one was not ), then onto the Couples Lounge. You can go to the Club MoBay lounge, but my experience has been that things move so fast at the Couples Lounge (i.e., shuttle is ready within minutes) not much time for Club MoBay lounge.

Your friends could wait for you at the Club MoBay lounge...but if it was me, I would tell them to get on the first bus to the resort and meet them there (I would not want to wait at the airport when I could be on the beach an hour earlier).

Some folks like Club Mobay, some don't see the value, we love it. The CM staff meet you after you get off the plane down the hall a bit, there will be a host holding your name up. They help you get through customs, if the customs hall is busy, this is where you get the best value. They don't get your bags, but help you locate. With bags in possession the take you to the Couples lounge and check your luggage with staff. You then go a few feet to the Club Mobay lounge and have a beer ( or 3). Club Mobay staff will let you know when it is time to leave for the Couples shuttle. to each their own, but we like it! Couples shuttles leave every 20 or 30 minutes, mane yes, your friends can wait!

It's the immigration lines that can be long. Never waited more than a couple of minutes in customs.

    Welcome to Couples.

The time saved really depends upon the time of year, day of the week, and time of day you arrive at Sangster International Airport.

There is no historical listing of flight arrivals to this airport so I have been keeping track myself. I keep my data in a spreadsheet. Here is what I have found.

I only track during Tourist season so I won't have any data for the summer months. There can be as few as 26 flights per day (Early November) to as many as 66 flights per day (mid March). Tuesday and Thursday are the least busy days. Saturday is the busiest day by far. Early to mid afternoon seems the busiest time of day.

We tend to travel during peak tourist season, mid to late February and usually arrive on a Saturday during the middle of the afternoon, about as busy as it gets. Before Club Mobay we have started at the beginning of the line at the top of the ramp going down to the Customs and Immigration area. We have stood in this line for over 2 1/2 hours, really.

The last couple of trips we have used Club Mobay. The airport was just as busy. But now we get from the aircraft door to the Couples lounge in about 15 minutes.

But like I said, the time saved really depends upon when you travel. During the off season when the airport is only operating at about 40% capacity you are not going to save any time.

Yes, Club Mobay is clearly marked in both directions. For the arrival service you will see a Club MOBAY sign and a person will be waiting holding a sign with both of your names on it. If you purchased the departure service you will find a Club Mobay kiosk just outside the entrance to security.

Once you process Customs and Immigrations you will pass down a short corridor to the arrival terminal. Look to your left and you will see the Couples Lounge, a welcome sight. Mention to your Club Mobay guide you are going to Couples and he will bring you right to the Couples Lounge. Immediately check in at the desk in the Couples Lounge. They should know you are coming. Your bags will be tagged for the correct resort. This will be the last time you touch your bags until they are delivered to your room at the resort. A shuttle bus leaves for the resorts about every 30 Jamaican minutes. You can enjoy some Red Stripes in the Couples Lounge while you wait for your bus. Or since you also purchased Club Mobay you can go to the Club Mobay lounge and enjoy some Rum Punch. Just let someone from Couples know where you are going.

Tipping. You do not tip the Couples employees at the Couples Lounge. However the Club Mobay guide, the porter who carries your bags to the shuttle bus, and your bus driver are not Couples employees and they will expect a tip. I usually give the Club Mobay guide $10, porter about $5 and the bus driver about $10. However this is up to you. But it may get a little awkward if you don't tip.

We also will sometimes stop at the bar outside the terminal and buy a beer or two for the ride to the resort. However, they will not allow you to re-enter the terminal with the glass beer bottles. These bottles will not have twist off caps. If you decide you want to have a couple of beers on the ride to the resort be sure to bring a bottle opener.

Since we start partying the moment we hit the Couples Lounge and have a beer or two along the way, sometimes we need a rest stop along the way. Ask your driver and he will stop. The bus ride in to Ocho Rios or Negril will take about 1 1/2 hours give or take depending upon the traffic.

Yes, you could wait for your friends at the Couples Lounge. Just let the people at the desk know you want to wait.

    Enjoy your stay in paradise.

They have someone waiting for you with a sign right as you come off the plane. You follow them through customs, and then they wait with you while you get your luggage. They will then walk you to the MoBay lounge which is close to the Couples Lounge. You will not have to hassle with anything, you will be guided the whole way through. I'm not sure how often the bus comes, probably every 30 min or so, but they can definitely wait for you in either of the lounges. Club Mobay is worth every penny!Name: p&L.jpg

I followed your lead and put together a spreadsheet of all the flights arriving on 7/16 (when we get into MBJ.) I lined up all the arrivals by time, flight #, plane models and seating capacity for each. I then added up the potential passenger counts of all the planes landing within 40 minutes, before and after, of each flight.

It's our first visit to MBJ in 18+ years so I have no frame of reference for what is busy and what is slow, but I have to assume the numbers I'm seeing for that Saturday have to be at the high end. I may take the time to pull the same info for a Wednesday to set up a comparison but, with potentially 2200 passengers arriving in our 80-minute window, I'm leaning toward booking Mobay and just considering it "comfort insurance."

Good idea...I would hate to be at the end of a 2 hour line kicking myself. (sort of like investing in diet & exercise - I've heard someone say "had I known I was going to live so long I would have taken better care of myself" )

Our first Couples trip was our worst travel experience (we were rookies).

Mistake #1: Air travel with a connection (I understand that some regions have no choice, but with Newark, JFK & Phili at our disposal, we have no excuse to fly anything but direct).
Mistake #2: All essential items in checked luggage...which took 3 days to get to CN (smarter packing with carry-on now).
Mistake #3: No Club MoBay to avoid the extremely the long line (not sure if it was available in 2010, but we didn't have it).
Mistake #4: Saturday afternoon arrival (granted, not everyone's travel is flexible...but we have flexibility and tend to arrive on Thursday now).
Mistake #5: Early morning return flight (I think we had to be in the lobby by 4:00 a.m. for our return shuttle...ugh!).
Mistake #6: Letting travel mistakes get into our head and detract from our vacation (as hard as it can be, I think we are much better now at going with the flow).

Lesson learned: go to Couples as often as possible in order to develop, improve and refine travel skills.

Another reason for Mobay. When we arrived this year, one of our bags didn't. We had the help from the Mobay guide. He knew where to go, what to do, informed the Couples Lounge what was up, and basically took care of everything. That took some time but if I was doing it... it would have taken a lot longer and I would have needed many more Red Stripes to feel O.K. on the ride. Money well spent!!!

You cannot beat the level of service you will receive with Club Mobay. Only you can decide if it is really needed. Our rookie year in Jamaica, the line for Immigration was backed up clear up the ramp and it was still kind of open air up there. It was very hot and we stood in line for 2 1/2 hours sweating on a Friday afternoon. Since then, we have used Club Mobay once and it was nice, but there was not much of a line and the other visits have been easy with out it. Last year we landed over the noon hour on a Tuesday and the entire hall was empty, the scanners were running and it was easy as can be.

THAT my friend is what this message board is all about. Sharing the experiences with others. Very wise indeed. We ALWAYS fly direct out of Philly...

This site lists the daily arrivals (i.e., it only lists TODAY'S arrivals...so you will know what Wednesday, 11-MAY looks like if you look today, 12-MAY if you look tomorrow, etc.).

    http://www.mbjairport.com/arrivals

Keep looking on Wednesdays and you will get a feel for how many flights are arriving just before your or nearly at the same time. If it seems busy, then go for Club Mobay.
