Dress code change at Lychee (CN)? Anyone? Info please?

The CN website shows that no shorts (even dress shorts) are allowed at Lychee. Is this an official change going forward? When did the change go into effect? Everyone seems to think dress shorts with a nice shirt and nice shoes are still acceptable at Lychee. If there has been a change it may require more of an announcement because most repeaters feel they know the dress codes and don't go and look for dress code updates. The vast majority of us want to follow the dress codes but this change seems to have sneaked up on us. The only reason I knew to look was that I saw a question about it on another board.
Info please?? Confirmation of new dress policy at Lychee?

We would also like to get this issue settled. I have always worn nice shorts to the Lychee since it first opened, except for the Repeater's Dinner. Either there has been a change of policy or they have not enforced the "slacks" policy the 10 plus times we have eaten there! Since we'll be back next week with a new couple, I hope to see an answer (allowing shorts!) soon.

As a repeater with trip #7 to CN coming up, I would like to know the answer to this also. Randymon??? I'm not a Lychee fan but my husband loves it so will have to eat there at least 1 of the 8 nights we'll be there. Hoping nice shorts will still be permitted.

After I wrote the original post, but was waiting for it to be posted I got an email from Randymon (nice of him!) to address my question. He basically said that there has been no change in the dress code at Lychee and that the dress code is the one that is posted on the website. I literally had no inkling at all that long pants were required in Lychee or I would have worn them instead of dress shorts all the times we have eaten there.
As for if it's a change.... I obviously cannot disagree with Randymon but I will say that I think the dining handout given at Check-In says that nice shorts are okay in Lychee. The confusion I am having might be because of the discrepancy between the policy on the website and the one I have seen when I am there, and the discrepancy between the website dress code and the dining handout. Though I do have to admit that I am not 100% sure what the dining handout says. I wish I had saved that thing.

Thanks for your reply! I was starting to think I was crazy and everyone knew it was 'long pants' except me (well, expect me and every man eating in Lychee the past two years... I have seldom seen long pants in Lychee other than for the Repeater Dinner).

We've been to CN 8 times and have always worn nice shorts (with dressy top for me and collared shirt for my DH) and never had an issue. I would hate to think that, on the night when Heliconia is closed, we either "dress up" or go to Cassava. One of the reasons we love CN is that, other than Otaheite, the dinner dress is casual (but neat).

We are going to CN again in 2 weeks for our 3rd visit and we usually visit Lychee twice during our one week stay and my hubby wears dress shorts + a gold shirt every night except to Otaheite and to the repeater's dinner. Not sure he wants to dress up more than 3x during the week.

I have always worn long pants to Lychee, not even knowing it was required, I just did it knowing it is the the restaurant with the best air conditioning and would feel comfortable, besides the wife is always very dressed when we go there so I wanted to blend with her.
Does seem it would be an issue with me personally either way,but I will say there were evenings that after dinner if we were going to participate in some outdoor activity, Casino night, or see the nighttime entertainment I would go back to my room and dress more comfortable with lighter clothing.

We love CN because you don't have to dress up every night. Hated that at "S".

As I mentioned above...we already dress up 3x during the week (twice for Otaheite and once to the repeater's dinner) but hubby is willing to wear pants to eat at Lychee but prefers to wear his leather sandals there versus dress shoes & socks which is required for Otaheite. I'd dress up just to enjoy that appetizer platter for two. Yummy

You do not have to dress up at all at Couples except if you want to go to one restaurant Oteheite. In fact, you will be very surprised at how comfortable you feel at this place. It is very causal and laid back but just not grungy. In my opinion, it is perfect!

Sorry but my dress shorts & collared shirt are NOT grungy....but between 1 night Oteheite, 2 nights Lychee's and repeaters dinner that's more than 1/2 our week when I would have to wear long pants. I wear a suit all week and prefer resort casual when I go away. The whole reason we choose Jamaica (and specifically Couples Resorts) is for the laid back attitude. We have been to CN 5 times & I never wore long pants in Lychee's for which I apologize. I thought Oteheite was the only one that required them.

That is the point of this thread! We need to determine if what you say is true: that you only need to dress up, that is wear long pants, for the Oteheite but can be a bit more casual at the Lychee. There seems to be a question raised by the language on the website.

I agree with you and most everyone else that nice shorts and even collared shirts have been fine at the Lychee since day one! I hope find out what's is really happening at CN on Friday! Someone on TA said they knew someone who was turned away for wearing shorts in July. So either the policy has not changed but they only sometimes enforce it or there were other issues with this couple.

I hear ya Captain Jim. I've thrown my 2 cents into a few of these dress code debates and gotten lambasted by people who seem to think that seeing somebody in shorts at dinner will ruin their vacation. As I like to say, I don't leave Iowa in Feb to put pants on. For this reason I avoid Oteheite and have never even eaten there in 3 visits to CN. I also wear dress shorts to Lychee and will continue to do so until turned away. At that point I will consider giving another company the $7000 per year (2 visits to a Couples per year) that I give Couples. One of the main reasons we chose Couples in the first place was the casual atmosphere. A funny story, I wore shorts to the repeaters dinner at Lychee 2 years ago. We had no intentions of going since I don't even pack pants since we travel carry on only. Some friends from the year before happend to be there the same week and convinced me to at least try to get in with shorts so we could have dinner with them. I showed up wearing a Tommy Bahama Shirt, Tommy Hilfiger dress shorts and $100 dress leather sandals. I am not a scurve, this is how I dress for dinner every night. Others were wearing wrinkled shirts and stained old slacks and our friends looked at me and said " you look way dressier than a lot of those guys with pants". We were then led into Lychee and I was sat at a table with my legs totally covered by a tablecloth. Had somebody not seen me walk in they would have had no clue at all that I was wearing shorts. I hope that I didn't ruin anybody's dinner.

Where on earth are the people from who are opposed to wearing long pants to dinner while on vacation, anywhere? Seriously? that is a bone of contention? Who care how much your flip flops and shorts cost, that's not the point! We LOVE CN BECAUSE they have a few simple dress code standards! If people want to let it all hang out and walk around in whatever, GO TO A RESORT THAT WELCOMES THAT! When my wife and I step out for an elegant and romantic dinner in slacks, collar shirt and she's in a beautiful dress and heels, we don't want to be seated with Jimmy Buffet and the Parrot Heads! No judgement here, just what's the fuss???

My original point was that there seems to have been a change in the dress code at Lychee, not that anyone is planning to defy the dress code there. I have no clue how or why you got to the price of flip flops or where people must be from to wonder if the dress code has changed. No one is saying flip flops should be allowed at Lychee. Please read the thread and it might bother you less.

To catch people up who don't know what the thread is about...
Dress shorts with a nice shirt (a shirt with a collar) and nice shoes (not flip flops) have been the accepted norm at Lychee for a long time and most men seem to dress that way when eating at Lychee (with the exception of the return guest dinner where long pants are the expectation). The dining guide given at check in indicates (unless it has changed recently) that dress shorts are fine for Lychee. The website now says that long pants are required at Lychee and this appears to many of us to be a recent change. I am not, and not one else is planning to defy the dress code at Lychee.... we are simply asking for clarification on what the dress code is, and if it does require long pants when did the change occur? Relax.... we are going to follow the dress code or eat somewhere else. We just want to know what the dress code is for sure. That's all.

I guess what I should have said was we were at CN Last month and ate at Lychee three times. My husband wore shorts every time we went to Lychee. NO PROBLEM MON.
