Carrie: Where are you from?
The Swartzs: I'm originally from Haverhill Mass, Syl is from Manchester N.H. We currently live in Medford Mass., about ten miles north of Boston.

Carrie: How did you meet?
The Swartzs: We were at a dance in Manchester N.H. There were two groups of kids. The up and coming 13,14,15, year old kids and another group of older kids. 17,18,19. I had been dating someone in Manchester for a while. At the dance I noticed Sylvia. But she was only 15 back then in 1959 and I Was 19. Protocol was a lot different back then. So being 19 there was no way I could date anyone that young. Years went by and in 1965 when I got out of the service, I ran into Syl at Salisbury Beach. I had broken up with the person I had been seeing. Syl and I dated for the rest of the summer and into 1966. We were married in May of 1967 and will celebrate our 48 wedding anniversary this May.

Carrie: How many times have you been to Couples Resorts, and which properties?

The Swartzs: We have been to CTI 38 times and CSS once.

Carrie: Wow! That's impressive. How has Couples played a role in your personal love story?

The Swartzs: We have a daughter with special needs. After she was born in 1972, we devoted all of our time and energy in bringing her up. We hadn't had a vacation in 25 years. In 1995, Syl, who is a professional tennis teacher, got a chance to teach at the old COR for a week, in exchange for room and board. We had to borrow the money for the plane from our parents. It took an incredible amount of planning in order to make arrangements for someone to care for Syd while we were gone. Since then, we have returned every year and about 10 years ago, we started going twice a year. It was the greatest reward we could have ever hoped for.

Carrie: What are the top three pieces of advice you would give to a first-time guest?

The Swartzs: Be prepared to be overwhelmed at which ever resort you decide to attend. You will not be disappointed. After you have chosen a resort, read the Message Board a lot. There is a lot of honest information there that will give you an idea of what is to come. Take the orientation tour after you arrive. This will give you an idea of the activities and how the resort is laid out.

Carrie: In your opinion, what makes Couples so unique?

The Swartzs: That's easy. The staff. They are very friendly, competent and are committed to making your stay more than just a "vacation". It will be an experience that you will not soon forget.

Carrie: In a single word, describe what Couples means to you the two of you.

The Swartzs: I guess that if I had to choose just one word, it would be togetherness.

Carrie: Which staff members or fellow guests do you most look forward to seeing when you return.?
The Swartzs: Many of us make plans to go at the same time. This is like going to camp and seeing the same kids year after year. As far as staff that we look forward to seeing, there are just so many individuals that we have known for so long, that it would be impossible to name them all. The bar crew, the beach crew, entertainment, maintenance crew and so many more.

Carrie: Fill in the blank. Our ideal day at Couples consists of________
The Swartzs: Because we have been going for so long, many of the off site excursion we have already done. So all of our time is spent out on TI with some of the nicest people we have ever met. We are up before the sunrise and Syl often does an early morning swim before breakfast. After breakfast, we head back to the room, pack our things for the day and head for the pier to make the first boat over to TI. Evenings are spent with friends just enjoying each others company.

Thank you for being a part of the Guest Spotlight Series, Richie and Sylvia. We look forward to welcoming you back to Couples Tower Isle again soon!

One love,
