Couples Resorts Guest Spotlight Series: The Holloways

Hi Couples family!

Last week we kicked off the guest spotlight series and this week I am proud to introduce you to one of our repeater couples, Lloyd and Gillian Holloway from Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Lloyd and Gillian have been to Couples Sans Souci five times and have their sixth trip booked for September of this year. They are Sans Souci faithfuls and so much even, that Lloyd started the unofficial Couples Sans Souci Facebook group where he and other enthusiasts can bask and chat all things CSS. I asked the Holloways some questions about what Couples means to them and their relationship, and you can view the full Q&A below. Enjoy!

Carrie: How many times have you been to Couples Resorts, and which properties have you been to?
The Holloways: We have been to Couples Sans Souci 5 times, trip number 6 booked for September 2015. We are so happy there, we are not too inclined to venture away from "home" as yet. Maybe some day...

Carrie: How has Couples played a role in your personal love story?
The Holloways: We would have to say that our first trip "home" to Sans Souci, was a learning experience for us both. We were newlyweds, we both have hectic stressful careers, 5 kids, one grandson, and live in a very hectic city where everything is rush, rush, rush. We have a great circle of family and friends that are very important to us, so, much of our time was spent doing things together, but usually with others with us. On top of that, we planned our own wedding, right down to the fine details that year. There was always something to do, somewhere to go, and our time was very stretched. Our first time "home" was our first time away together without family, just the two of us. Sans Souci provided us a place of peace and relaxation, a place for just us to be together, to let the daily hectic lives of ours to melt away, to be "without worry" for the first time in quite awhile. No kids, no family, no friends. It was amazing. We spent that whole week together, talking, laughing, holding hands, and so on. We just enjoyed each other in a blissful paradise provided to us. We did meet some wonderful people, both staff and guests and socialized with them, but really it was all about us being together. That is what we have taken from our first Couples trip. Ever since then, we take time every day, to re-connect, talk about our day and so on, for an hour or two in the evening. It is something we look forward to at the end of our time in the rat race, just like we did on our first trip. Just us, no distractions, no worries. It brings us back together after the daily grind and definitely makes us better as a couple.

Carrie: What are the top three pieces of advice you would give to a first-time guest at Couples?
The Holloways: 1. Research as much information as you can before you go. It will give you a better idea of what to expect, give you things to look forward to. When you are more informed about Couples and what to expect, your vacation will be that much better. 2. Don't over plan and try to do everything available while there. This is a vacation, not a race. Vacate your lives, take in the vibe, and go with the flow. Oh, and put your watch in the room safe and leave it there!!! 3. Stop every once in awhile and "smell the roses" so to speak. There is so much effort and detail put into the Couples Resorts, that many don't even see the beauty unless they stop and look around, even just for a moment. So yes, stop and look around. Take it all in, the sights, sounds, and smells, and hold that real life memory in your mind because a picture is great, but it's not the real thing.

Carrie: In your opinion, what makes Couples so unique?
The Holloways: In a nutshell... the vibe. Couples has a very unique ambiance to it. It may be because they are a couples only resort, or maybe because they are not huge resorts with 800 rooms, or maybe it's the staff that welcome you "home". No matter what it is, for us, Sans Souci feels like home, we are welcome there, we fit in there. I'm sure many feel the same way about all of the Couples resorts. Is Sans Souci perfect??? No, but it is perfect for us.

Carrie: In a single word, describe what Couples means to the two of you.
The Holloways: Tranquility.

Carrie: Which staff members or fellow guests do you most look forward to seeing when you return?
The Holloways: There are so many wonderful staff, and we have met so many wonderful couples while there, we look forward to seeing everyone, both staff and guests. Many guests we met even on our first trip, we still keep in contact with, and with each trip, that list grows longer. We have had the pleasure and honor of being there with quite a few guests multiple times over the last 5 trips. We are for sure looking forward to seeing them again, catching up, sharing in some libations, food, and laughter. We also look forward to meeting new friends as well. As far as the staff we look forward to, there are so many. I could name them off one by one, but I think just their names would do them no justice, as a name is just a name unless you know what they do. So here is how I would describe our perfect arrival day, what we do, and who are our favorite staff members are when we go "home. Frankie greets us when we arrive on the happy bus. Dalton checks us in at reception. Alecia books our dinners at guest services. Then off to the room to change. Then down to the main beach to get our toes in the sand. Stop at the main beach bar where Jheanel and Easton are serving up refreshments. Over to water sports to book our sunset cruise with Derron and Amalachi. We then head over to Sunset Beach where Tenesha and Veronique greet us. Before dinner we head back to the room for some balcony time and to listen to the sweet sounds of the roaming sax player Clive. We then head down to the martini bar where Ms. "Q" (Quessian) is mixing her special potions, for a pre-dinner martini. Then off to Bella Vista for dinner, sitting on the lower level, right next to the beach, with the Mento band playing at the main bar. After dinner it's up to the balloon bar to hear Patrick sing at showtime, with a couple of drinks from Andrew Rodney, and chat with Milton and Saneta of the entertainment team. Of course Pierre, Nicholas, and Michelle are there, greeting and chatting with guests, both repeaters and newbies, making them feel as important as kings and queens. We end our evening with a nightcap on the balcony, listening to our little friends, the tree frogs. Of course, the next day from the time I wake up, I'm craving an Edgar's special omelet!!! All through the day, it's big smiles and hugs from everyone!!!

Carrie: Fill in the blank: Our ideal day at Couples consists of doing...
The Holloways: What we want, when we want, no distractions, no worries.... just the two of us... together.
